Raising the steak at Mg St Restaurant

We (K& I) have been fans of @mag_st._restaurant ever since it opened. I am referring to the one at Colaba. We go there often when we are in south Mumbai. We prefer to sit in the downstair section which has a rather cosy feel. A lobster roll (or more) is a must order. I usually go for the double smash buff burger. A high point apart from the food is playing with the cat(s) outside the door which the staff look after.
I’ve not gone to the one at Bandra that often and never for a main meal. There’s no reason for it, it’s just that one has one’s favourite places here which one frequents. We decided on Mag St Bandra last night when a friend took us for dinner.
The ambiance here is more classy and upscale restaurant-like compared to that in town.
Let me get down straight to business. I ordered a steak. My friend Sahil @headbangereats had suggested it when I asked him for steak recommendations in Bandra. I rarely have steaks in Mumbai as we get buff & not beef and I’d rather not spend my cholesterol allowance on it. I wanted the steak to be done medium rare. ‘Please make sure that it’s not dry,’ I told the waiter. He smiled & reassured me that it would not be so.

The steak did not need any of the accompaniments

He was right. The steak was juicy, delightfully flavoured. Did not need the sea of béarnaise sauce & jus that surrounded it. That’s a good sign. I like the meat to do its work. And it did. I dipped the fries in the sauce and had them, but was not fast enough as everyone at the table made a dash for them.

Pizza decadence

The pizza was lovely. Thin crust, supple. They give you an option for half & half. We chose pepperoni & jalapeño and quattro formaggio. A beautiful flavour burst in what was a rainy evening.

You can’t not order the lobster roll at Mg St

We ordered the mandatory lobster roll. Soft buttery, indulgent brioche, lobster, loads of mayo. It ticked the right boxes but I prefer the ones at Layla & Bastian as the bread has a bit more texture and the lobster more ample and less sauce doused.

Listless grilled chicken

K ordered a pan grilled chicken which came in a sea of jus & was as boring as it sounds. I thought the Burmese chicken that we ordered was a dessert as it was excruciatingly sweet., but was apparently not. The girls ordered tres leches & peanut butter. cookie. I found these a bit too decadent. They loved both!

PS: I would not recommend the waffles there if you like your waffles to be ‘naked’ and not doused with sauces. The flavour tends to be savoury, or tasteless actually, and adding butter or honey/ maple syrup does not work. We tried this when we for breakfast there a few days later.
