Wish you a very happy new year from little Nimki, Baby Loaf, K and me

End-of-the-year reflections, lists, achievements, disappointments, etc, flooded my social media in the week leading to New Year’s Day.
Many food writers and content creators shared recommendations/ awards for the year. I could not remember what I had the week before, let alone the best of ‘24. Should I go through my Instagram feed to jog my memory? What did I achieve this year? Did I even accomplish anything?
I went through the goals I shared last year when a similar sense of FOMO made me write an end-of-year piece. I hadn’t met the first goal on the list—or the second!
Would ‘breaking a 15-year-old mental barrier and going to the gym’ be a possible ‘achievement’? What about winning the trust of Mishti, our cat Nimki’s biological mother, towards the end of the year? There were the awards I won, the videos I filmed….
… and then, ‘stop going down the rabbit hole.’
K suggested taking a break from work last week. I decided to do that & not take any ‘chaap’ as they say in Bengali. Stress. Pressure.
FOMO vanished from that moment. I spent time with my babies, a bit more with little Nimki, who discovered my lap after being solely K’s lap baby all this while. Loaf hung with me at times. I made it a point to meet and feed Scooby, my community cat ‘son.’
K and I went on mall dates. Once with G to see Mufasa when I had the most amazing sausage on yellow tomato sauce base pizza at the Armani Cafe at Jio World Plaza. I drove K and me to Jio World Drive where I had the fabulous spaghetti carbonara which chef Pravin makes for me at Cou Cou.
Erika treated us to a lovely dinner at the Bandra Gymkhana. I focused on Goan & East Indian food and had some amazing squid rechad, ox tongue roast and moile, Goan sausage chilli fry, sorpotel & Goan Sausage pulao.
Shaswati treated us a to a koraishootir kochuri, alur dom and mangsho Bengali winter party at our place plus prawn fry and shikhampuri kebab. We went to the Grovers’ on the first for SN puja followed by kulcha.
I filmed the 2nd part of the Machhi Mumbai series & posted the videos.
Closed a couple of bank accounts. Got my US visa approved.
The year was too long to summarise but ‘peaceful, easy, feeling,’ summed up the week.

It’s sorpotel and not sorted
And then this happened. What a wonderful start to the year, thank you Upper Crust and Farzana Contractor for this:
