Spot the laddoo that lies at the heart of this story

We are conditioned to spot imperfection. If you were look at the picture, you would point out that one of the laddoos is flattened. And,
spot the typo that I slipped in intentionally in the earlier sentence.
The laddoo, chakli, shakarpara & poha in the plate of faral (Diwali sweets and snacks made in Maharashtrian homes) is some of the best one has had. I am yet to try the karanji. That’s one faral item that I am not fond of.I got a call out of the blue this afternoon from Dr J, ‘Kalyan are you home? It’s a bit late but I’ve finally made diwali faral & am dropping some for the two of you with the guard.’
In case you had been here back then, you’d remember Dr J as the physio who came home through the pandemic to help me deal with a bad back that I had then. She is a cat parent too & looks after many cats and walked us through the early days of our adopting our cats,  Baby Loaf & little Nimki.

It’s probably been more than a year since we’ve met, which is not a bad thing from a medical point of view though we would love to have her over socially & she has an open invitation to come over and meet the cats anytime.
She doesn’t have the time unfortunately as her waking hours are spent driving from patient to patient, trying to help them deal with pain, while she runs the house, supports her mum and her community cat babies.
I was really touched that she took the time to give us some faral though we were not in touch.
One laddoo was slightly broken as it was freshly made and very juicy. Tasted delicious. Makes one wonder if one should obsess so much about imperfection.
Nope, I am not trying to pretend to be a new age guru. This is just something that struck me while I took the picture of the plate. Food pictures always talk to me.

Baby Loaf the sleep snacker

There’s something else that I wanted to share. Baby Loaf was sleeping in his basket while I was conceptualising this post in my head while K & I watched TV and before I wrote it. Loaf suddenly woke up, went straight to his food bowl, ate some kibble and went back to bed. He repeated this twice more. I’ve noticed this earlier too. He suddenly wakes up, goes straight to where his food bowl is, eats, goes back to sleep. He has got that from me. I too wake up suddenly at night, go straight to the kitchen, eat, go back to sleep. This happens quite often.
What you see on the plate is the sort of stuff I hunt for. Namkeen in particular.
If this doesn’t prove that Loaf has my genes, then nothing will!

Little Nimki jumped up on my lap while I published this post and wanted my undivided attention
