#FoodocracyKitchens on #FinelyChoppedTV is where I tell you about the food cooked across the kitchens of Mumbai by people belonging to different communities.

This episode is about a Pathare Prabhu winter dish called ghada which was cooked and sent to me by home chef and my friend, Bimba Nayak. Pathare Prabhus are considered to be one of the early settlers of Mumbai and most of my knowledge about them and their food is thanks to Bimba.

The ghada is a slow cooked dish where winter vegetables are steamed together. A bit like the Gujarati winter dish of undhiyu in essence, but very different in taste. The PPs add non-veg too and Bimba made one with mutton, another with with prawns and ghol fish (which she sent us); and a vegetarian version too.

The seafood ghada reminded me so much the Bengali mixed vegetable dish, the chorchori. One in which adding fish innards or shrimp is par for the course. This was not the first time that I
had detected a similarity in Bengali food and Pathare Prabhu food.

The ghada is paired with tel poli says Bimba. A sweet bread whose khaaja like taste, along with the fact that the Pathare Prabhus originally hailed from Rajasthan, made me ponder about the fluidity of the Indian food ethos.
Funny how a meal can make ones mind wander in so many directions isn’t it?

Do give this a watch, subscribe to the channel and tell me about your favourite winter dish.
