There is a lot of uncertainty around the Covid vaccine around us. Among those eligible. As well as among those who know people who are eligible.

My wife and I took our first jab 4 days back. The Covishield one.

I thought I would chronicle what happened in the days that followed. Just facts with no medicinal inferences. I am no doctor. Plus doctors tell me that everyone responds to it differently.

The original updates were in the form of Instagram posts which I collated at the end of the day and posted in the blog without much editing. Hence the ‘captain’s log’ like tone. This post is the last of this series. It contains the story of the 3rd day and of the 4th day morning.

One has been better since then and its 9 pm now. I self shot two videos today. Cooked a wok of noodles too. Felt a bit tired at the end no doubt but savasana fixed that. I do not see the need for a meal by meal chronicling after this and would be more that  happy if this helped anyone. I did an Instagram live Q&A on the experience too yesterday and shared the video at the end of this post.

#FinelyChoppedBreakfasts on day 3 after the jab.

Didn’t wake up with body ache, unlike yesterday when we did. Jabbed shoulder a bit sore like it was in school after we took a vaccine. We were advised to swing our arms then which was fun. Specially for us boys who emulated the bowling actions of Kapil, Qadir, Marshal, etc . No said the nurse this time, when I asked her if I should swing my arms. Which was a relief as I don’t watch cricket now!

Menu? Fried eggs which turned out as omelettes as the yolk came out naturally scrambled! One topped with matured English cheddar. The other with non-dairy truffle cream cheese. Toast with butter for one.

Day 3 post jab lunch:

Feeling quite better compared to yesterday. Shoulder is sore.

Lunch featured quite a few of the lovely products we have recently received as samplers.
There was Bengali styled mooshuri dal with simple onion tomato bhindi made by Banu. Kothamalli samba rice from @biobasicsin which cooks a lot faster than most red rices I’ve tried. Pomfret marinated in @palukkhanna’s @kitchenfables biryani/ kebab masala, salt & mustard oil, and grilled in the airfryer for 15 min at 200 c. This came out very well.

On the side were two tantalising and yet not overbearing pickles, brinjal & red chilli, from the Nainital based @maaspickles. Made for a glorious #supportsmallbusiness #vocalforlocal lunch.

Post lunch: Was at my desk for the first time since I took the covishield jab as I needed
my comp for a few things. Baby Loaf saw me and settled by me. I think he felt reassured.

Evening:

Kada dosa from Madras Diaries.

So big that I felt like Dara Singh at the end of it!

Madras Diaries is one of restaurants nearby in Bandra that I’d visited last month when I wanted a freshly made dosa one evening.

Called in for the same today. Dosa with podi/ gunpowder inside. The dosa was of course not as hot when called in but can I confess that I felt far more relaxed eating it at home with no one around (barring K and the cats) and using our own cutlery and not the forks and spoons kept in a glass on the table? Dipping the dosa in the chutney & sambar took care of the gap between tava to plate.

Whether to meet your food cravings or to support your neighbourhood restaurants, ordering in a nice way of having your dosa and eating it too.

PS: The shoulder soreness is there but no body ache after post lunch nap cum savasana unlike yesterday.

Day 3 after jab dinner:

Our friend and neighbour, Erika, had most kindly cooked and brought us vindaloo yesterday. I did what a Goan granny would ask one to. I kept it overnight before K and I dug into it tonight. Since we are in Bandra and not Benaulim, we paired the tultule (Bengali for tender) pork with ladi pav and not poiee. Thanks so much Erika 🌺

Baby Loaf came up to me while I was eating, proud of his Erika mummy’s work.

Slight tiredness at the end of the day, no further fever or bodyache today barring soreness where one was jabbed. The nurse had prepared me for this and said not to apply ointment, hot or cold pack, if this happens.

In other words, ‘man up!’

Day 4 after jab:
Slept late last night but woke up fairly fresh. Shoulder soreness where jabbed still there, but less than last night.

My first thoughts on waking up involved a boiled egg & options for a zero effort breakfast.
Then the bell rang. It was our neighbours Erika & Gia. They dropped off a lavish and loving breakfast platter of the most perfectly made mushroom omelettes, grilled sausages and cuddly and huggable buttered toast. The tee shirt I wore was a coincidence and an expression of my life philosophy and I put K on pap duty.

Thanks Erika & Gia, I felt as if we were at Candies.

PS: #bandra #mumbai : We ordered a cappuccino from Starbucks and it came in. Food deliveries are on as per norms and you can call in while home. A home chef delivery came in too. Nature’s Basket on its way too. #psa #StayHome
(Coffee wasn’t for me. I have an espresso made at home for breakfast 🙂)

Life after first Covid vax. Q & A video

Why we took the vaccine? Are their after effects? What to expect? Can you go back to life the way it was (with no masks, social distancing) after the first vax? No.
Hope you find this useful and if you do, do share it please:

Some lovely news from the Finely Chopped by Kalyan Karmakar Facebook page.

I am pretty sure that the follower count a year back was less than 10k which means a 50 per cent growth in a year, primarily writing and podcasting about what we were eating at home. Fully organic. The numbers I mean.
Jokes apart. Thank you very much. I treasure your presence here and hope to spread a bit of hope and happiness through what I post.

PS: Hope you do follow me there if you don’t already.
