Mumbai’s Subko Specialty Coffee Roasters and Bake House opened exactly 3 days before the lockdown was declared in India. It has been 10 months since then and this independent run cafe has shown the same resilience as the 95 year old cottage in Bandra’s Bazar Road that it is housed in and has become quite the sleeper hit in town.
We went there during the Christmas week and had a lovely chicken quiche with Meghalaya black sesame, Kashmiri walnut chocolate (chocolate sourced from Kerala) cookie and cappuccino (with a blend of coffee beans from Karnataka and Meghalaya) which, along with the cold brew dark chocolate tart that our friend Manoj had treated us to earlier from there, told us why Subko has become one of the most exciting new entrants to Mumbai’s food scene.
We happened to meet Rahul Reddy, the young owner of this young enterprise, before leaving and I got him to share about the hyperlocal, India centric philosophy that drives those behind Subko.
Do give this a watch and do let us know about your favourites there if you are a Subko fan.
Thanks K for shooting this. The break was fun indeed!
