Plating the sadhya

A meal is so much more than just food for me.

I want to know, who made it. Where did it come from? Does it have any significance? Is there a story behind it? Is there a way of presenting the food? Is there a way of eating it? An order in which to have it? Is there an element that the meal centres around? Is it an everyday meal? A special meal? A festive meal? A meal of mourning? Or courting? Of love? Loss ? Of lust? Of dreams? Is it a happy meal? A sad one? Is it the food of ‘your people’? Or that of ‘others’? Does it bring back memories? Fond ones? Bitter ones? …

Little Nimki. The curious foodie kiitty

All I wanted to say in this post is that I looked up Swiggy for an Onam meal, saw Mani’s Lunch home listed, ordered in from there. Little Nimki jumped all over me while I opened the boxes. The food was pretty nice and homelike, barring the fact that they had served white and not matta rice.
What you see in the pic is 40 pc of what they had sent.

Relishing the sadhya

This post was just supposed to be about the meal that I had ordered.

Then I went into a tangent.
Sorry about that.

Ok bye. It’s time to eat!

ps: I am Bengali and am unaware of the cultural significance of Onam or of an Onam sadhya. It’s a part of the culture of Kerala. Please keep that in mind.
