K clicked this one when she saw me at my desk with Mac Sushi

Never in the history of mankind has a new MacBook Pro was made to wait to be inaugurated as long as this one was.

Would you believe it if I was to tell you that I brought home a spanking new MacBook Pro 13 on Friday and then took it out for the first time only today (Monday)? Well, that is really what happened and let me tell you why.

I bought the it on Thursday. From the Maple store at Santa Cruz. We got a good deal on my old MacBook Pro and its shift key was giving trouble in any case. The rest of it was a gift from K to me.❤️ I left Mac Sushi (named after the kitten we rescued) for the data to be transferred that evening and went the next afternoon to pick it up. That took quite some time as they had to remove the data from my old Mac and I had to spend more than an hour at the store on Fridat.

We had just taken our second Covid jab that day and I was on tenterhooks as I was told by friends, who had caught the virus after their second jab, that the immunity is low for the first 14 days after the jab. You can now imagine how stressed I was at the Maple store while the service person tried to figure out how to format my old comp! I finally has to read the ‘call your supervisor’ riot act to get things done.

How were we after the second jab? Many had told us that the aftereffects after the second jab in terms of symptoms such as body ache and fever are worse than after the first.

To be honest, it was not so for us. I guess the reaction to the Covid vaccine is as varied, if not more, as the type of biryanis that you get in India!

I had a bit of body ache on the first evening and soreness of the arm where I was jabbed. I was low on energy on day 2 and had a bit more of body ache, but nothing as life sapping as it was after jab one. I had organised our cooking schedule well enough with Banu to ensure that there was food in the house even if she bunked and that we did not need to order from out. Our friends, Erika and Gia, sent us Candies sandwiches and pan rolls and other treats. Anurita Ghoshal baked and sent us a decadent dark chocolate cake. I was craving for it after I heard K say ‘gooey chocolate cake’ on a work call and K had reached out to her.

Unlike me, K had to take a few work calls and rested the rest of the time. She had a mild headache apart from body ache, but no fever. Unlike me, she slept a lot for a couple of days but then her work life is so much more hectic mine and she could do with the rest.

My hip began acting up on day 3 after jab 2 and was pretty bad on Sunday. Very bad actually. I was hobbling as I walked inside the house. My doctor said it could be a result of the back spasm I was coming out of and the vaccine together. I had to back on pain killers and call my physio too. She confirmed that it was my back and not the jab.

Today is better than yesterday and I decided to open the MacBook to say hi to it. And to you.

I am back

To answer the opening question, no, for both of us the first vaccine jab was worse. And, as I said, reactions vary from person to person. Stay safe, do get vaccinated and remain masked.

We got vaccinated through Hinduja Mahim at the Bombay Scottish School. It was Rs 780 per person. The process was quite smooth and efficient.
