Mahrukhs’ Kitchen clockwise: Mutton keab, dar, caramel custard, mutton palao, kachumber. cashew chicken

I felt very tired when I went to sleep on Saturday night. There was no reason to. I had a light evening. Posted a blog post. The sort where I stitch my Instagram posts of the day. A practise that I have started of late as I feel that the blog is a more permanent and personal space than Instagram to record these daily nuggets. It’s easier to find things later in the blog. Even if the readership is nothing like that of my Instagram account. Posting the Instagram updates here is my way of keeping the score going through singles before I sit down to write a long copy, featured based post. The equivalent of clearing the boundary cricketing metaphors. This post is one of those. The quick single variety. After all it is important to keep posts coming on a site they say. As it is to keep the scoreboard moving in a cricket match. If you are a one person army, then this a good strategy I feel and it makes the blog my food journal once again.

Air fryer chicken wings with Seefah Thai chilli paste
& Lee Kum Kee dark soya

Coming back to Saturday evening, I had made chicken wings in the air fryer with dark soy sauce and Seefah’s Thai chilli paste and later, the brilliant Goa sausages from Larissa and Joshua’s Incendiary Kitchen. Chilli fry style.

This could not really be called heavy lifting but if I was tired, then I was. Luckily I had ordered lunch from a home chef for Sunday and we ordered breakfast from Candies after Beverly Perriera got Sylvia to call us to take the order after I messaged Beverly asking for help as I could not get through to the landlines. The meant that all our meals on Sunday were accounted for and I could sit back as we enjoyed the deliciousness of it all.

This is the point in the post at which I will get a bit lazy and go to my Instagram account and get the stories for you. This still does take some time by the way. Ta.

Sunday Lunch

Mutton pulao dar

#LazySundaysBeLike

‘She’s a woman of her words,’ said K when I told her that Mahrukh Mogrelia had advertised the kevabs (kebab) I had ordered for her as ‘100 pc boneless mutton.’

‘This is nara kheema na kebab. No papeta or anything else. Just meat!’

What you see in the pic is what I had for lunch. The mutton boti palao (pulao) that I ordered almost felt as if it had more mutton than rice (plus potato) and I did not take seconds as I was stuffed. Must add that the mutton was quite tender. The dal, spicy, as you would expect from a Navsari girl.

‘This sort of food makes me so happy,’ said K.

That’s a way better testimony to the Parsi creds of the food than I could give. I was happy too. Loved the food as well.

We cook a fair bit of Bengali food at home but not Parsi, so I am always on the lookout for ordering some good Bawa nosh for the Bawi at home.

Mahrukh’s hit the spot on two successive occasions and there’s more as you will see at dinner.

Sunday tea

#lazysundaybelike

Of course you guys knew that I’d order mutton patties for tea when I ordered the chicken sandwiches for breakfast from Candies.

I just love how flaky the crust is and the kheema stuffing inside, infused with spices used in a Goan kitchen. I pop it in the oven to refresh it before eating.

Sunday dinner

Cashew chicken

And for dinner there was the delicious cashew chicken most kindly sent by Mahrukh Magrolia along with our lunch order. A perfect example of balance in flavour. I am in awe of how tender her chicken was despite being from a large bird.

‘Marination is the secret and I go to the market to choose my meat, fish and check myself’ Mahrukh had once told me.

Her dar (dal) and cashew chicken came with instructions to add a little bit of water before heating them.

To cap it was the lovely caramel custard she sent. Sweetness just right. Not excessive. Bejewelled with specks of orange rind.

The bairi, Parsi for wife, loved both. Mission accomplished!

I was feeling rather tired last night and was happy to have spent the day with great food thanks to judicious orders and without cooking.
This is Mahrukh’s no for orders and her menu is on her insta page @mahrukhskitchen : +91 98925 13577

There is no #FinelyChoppedKitchen for this post as I did not cook!

I did a #Foodocracyforher chat with Jasleen Marwah on Sunday evening and you can catch it here
