Croissants, salami, espresso

It’s Monday morning and I Decided to pretend that K and I were on a staycation as I fried up some frozen chicken (well that’s what most five stars lead with now 🥲) salami and toasted the ‘care croissants’ from Baker’s Dozen that GeeGee got us yesterday along with a lovely cappuccino from Blue Tokai that had K’s heart. As you might know, if you follow me on Insta, K had a terrible fall on Friday night when she slipped on the moss in our yard at night and had a hairline crack. A ‘lucky escape’ given what happened, but still bad!

Funnily enough Zorabian, the company that makes the salami, writes ‘cheers to a healthier you’ on the pack.Takes a Parsi run company to call salami or sausages ‘healthy’ just because they are made with chicken. Perspective and context dikra. 😅Tastes good by the wan and I shallow fried them in a a bit of avocado oil.

K and I have a staycation ritual. I always wake up early when on holiday. I freshen up and go down (unless we have room service or lounge access included in our package) and K comes down towards the end of my breakfast to pick a cappuccino while house keeping cleans up our room.

What do I eat at hotel breakfast buffets. I have left my Attila the Hun days of my youth behind, where I’d ravage every counter, and believe in focus now. Since we don’t go to cafes now, I often start my stay with an eggs Benedict. My indulgent breakfast choice in the cafes of Bandra earlier. Oberoi (Grand, Nariman Point), Trident NP & ITC Maratha do it well. Otherwise a dosa. Sada with podi. In Kolkata, it’s luchi or kochuri of some sort, whether at ITC Sonar or Royal Bengal or the Oberoi Grand. Most five star hotels do a good croissant now and I often pick one while waiting for my dosa if I have ordered one. Drinks? I start with an ABC juice and end with a cappuccino. Usually a takeaway which we take back to the room.

I had an espresso at home today and no hotel in India can match the espressos my Chhotu Nespresso machine belts out.

Baby Loaf and little Nimki

The boys settled by me while I had breakfast and little Nimki looked worried when he saw me dream of a staycation. He misses us a lot when we are away. Baby Loaf pretends to be brave and grown up.

Cafes are opening now and we have stepped out a couple of times but the past year has taught one to #stayhome and call in for great produce, use nice crockery and forget that life is not what once was. We are double vaccinated but somehow don’t feel that confident about stepping out. There’s a bit of inertia too and I will write about that some other time.

Well, might as well live in the moment and make the most of it eh?

Have a great week ahead guys. Stay safe, afloat and happy. Eat well!

Ps: The doorbell rang twice (paper bill, vegetable cart guy) to rudely awaken me from my reveries and bring me back to Monday. Little Nimki gave me a tail hug as I finished typing. Then I got to know that an interview I was scheduled to do got cancelled.
