Mumbai boy, chef Varun Inamdar Inamdar, opened his first independent owned eatery, Mumbai Local Tawa, on 15th October 2020. His lockdown baby which was born on his birthday. It is a small eatery located at Mahim and is aimed at giving the city a taste of the street food that it so sorely misses post the pandemic. Made under hygienic conditions and with good quality produce and at prices that make the food accessible, said Varun when I got to chat with him through a Zoom interview which you get to see in this video. During the chat, Varun told us about the story behind the birth of the Mumbai Local Tawa and behind the naming of the bhidu cocktail biryani which is his tribute to actor Jackie Shroff. An inspiring chat for all who are in the food business or have entrepreneurial dreams in the time of the lockdown.
Before that, I take you through the memories of my early years in Mumbai which were evoked by the lip-smacking food that I tried from the Mumbai Local Tawa when Varun most kindly sent it over the day before. The anda masala, the bhidu cocktail biryani, the liver kali miri, the bhujing and the anda bhurjee.
Hope you like the video and please tell me about the street food dishes that you miss the most and what do you do when you crave for them.
