With Baby Loaf in the Almeida suite |
Let me tell you the story of the easy chair in the picture above.
It belonged to the landlord of the apartment we lived in earlier. During the time when I had taken a sabbatical from my career as a market researcher. It was fun to stay home and chill at first after being a worker-bee for 15 years. Lunch and then nap. After a while waking up to an empty house on working days would weighed on me. So I would sit on this arm chair after my nap, gather myself and then get up.
Things turned eventually and my career as a food writer began. We soon moved into another apartment in the same building. Our landlord was selling off the apartment and I asked him if we could keep the armchair. The kind elderly Goan gent readily said yes.
I don’t sit on it too often now as it’s a bit low for my back. Baby Loaf has made it his own and we jokingly call it the ‘Almeida Suite.’ Sometimes I go and sit beside him on the chair. When I am in pain. Or feeling unsettled. Or sometimes just to give him a cuddle. Feels lovely and so calming.
PS: In case you are reading this little Nimki, I love cuddling you too!
