We call this ‘Goan prawn chilli fry’ at home.
It is based on memories of a dish that we had eaten in a nondescript shack outside the Holiday Inn Hotel in Goa during our honeymoon 19 years back.
We returned to Mumbai and I tried to recreate the dish based on memories of what we had eaten.
It turned out well, the missus loved it and it became a family favourite since then.
I don’t know whether it’s ‘Goan’ or not but before you shout ‘cultural appropriation,’ let me just tell you that it’s easy to cook and very tasty too.
I used river prawns which is what we Bengalis like. Bought from Poonam at Khar market.
